For over a decade, chiaroscuro Chef/Owner Alessandro Campitelli has been honing his innate ability to bring excellence to the dining experience, a native of Rome Italy, Chef Alessandro began working at the young age of 14 as a waiter in a small intimate restaurant in the heart of the city .From that point on he knew he had found his passion and began to pursue more challenging roles in the industry.
Over the course of his career he has worked under some of the most talented chefs in Italy.Most notabely Antonello Colonna (ES Hotel) Massimo riccioli (la rosetta), and Heinz beck (la pergola in the rome cavalieri Hilton).
chiaroscuro (kee-ahr-uh-skyoo-roh) Italian for clear dark is a term in art for a contrast between light and dark. Most often associated with the Italian renaissance painter Caravaggio, chiaroscuro is a technique used to describe bold contrasts affecting a whole composition and used to achieve a sense of volume in modelling three-dimensional objects, this concept of contrast and volume is expressed through the décor of the dining room, marked by high backed banquettes and an open kitchen.
Since opening in 2007, chiaroscuro has received numerous positive reviews and was awarded Michelin guide recommendation for two consecutive years. Located across from the Trans America Pyramid building in the heart of San Francisco, chiaroscuro is ideal for a romantic dinner for two or a client lunch for eight.

Here Chef Alessandro works with his staff to bring local, seasonal and environmentally conscious food to your table.
